MATF
9th Newsletter edition - December 2009
For FARM-Africa and its partners, cassava
will no longer be a poor man’s food crop.
Through MATF, we have shown that profits of US$350
and even in some cases of US$ 2700 per acre are
possible with introduction of disease resistant
cassava varieties and new markets for cassava
products.
By scaling-out the cassava successes to Western
Kenya MATF expect to eliminate hunger and start
a vibrant local industry benefiting more than
25,000 people. One element of the successful MATF
approach is to empower smallholder farmers by
organising them in stronger production groups
and umbrella marketing associations. |
