PROJECT PROFILE: Christian Partners Development Association (CPDA)
Dairy Goat and Gardening in Vihiga district, Kenya

The Christian Partners Development Association (CPDA), a local NGO began implementation of the dairy goat project in September 2002. CPDA implemented the project in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Manor House, the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) and the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) now the World Agroforestry Centre (WAC).

The project combines up-grading of local goats for increased milk production and the use of goat manure to improve soil fertility for vegetable production.

The partnership of different organisations ensures delivery of and training on the different components of the technology. The technology of dairy goats is particularly relevant in Vihiga district where population pressure is very high and farm sizes are extremely small to accomodate dairy cattle raring.
