Newspaper - Kinda Women's Group is succeeding beyond
all expectations |
Published: April 19th 2007
The Kinda Women's Group bakery, in Homa Bay District,
Kenya, is now producing 200 loaves of bread, a ton
of cookies and 800 doughnuts a day. The bakery uses
special flour milled from sweet potatoes which have
been fortified with Vitamin A. On average the group
earns Sh115,000 a month; enough to take care of
their own families and several HIV and AIDS patients
as well as orphans. The success of the bakery is
also having an impact on the farmers who are now
growing more of the Vitamin A sweet potato varieties
to meet the demand. FARM-Africa funded the introduction
of the new sweet potato variety through the Maendeleo
Agricultural Technology Fund (MATF). Click the link
