How
can my group apply for MATF funding?
|
|
Once a call for concept
notes is advertised in the East Africa dailies and
the website, a project can submit a concept note
which is reviewed by a technical panel of advisors
drawn from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. Short listed
concepts are notified and asked to develop and submit
a full proposal. This is subjected to further review
and successful proposals undergo a field verification
process after which funds are disbursed to projects
upon signing a funding agreement. |
Who
is eligible? |
MATF
funds provide direct assistance to learning and
research institutions, rural-focused NGOs and
CBOs, commercial companies and small businesses
who do not use this fund to subsidise their core
business activities and public extension departments.
These institutions should be able to demonstrate
clear partnerships that will be used to disseminate
implemented technologies in their work and be
agriculture-oriented. |
| What
type of projects can be funded? |
| Projects
exploring crop, natural resource management and
livestock-related technologies (including bees and
fish) especially those that move beyond production
and into value addition and market access. Technologies
must have been tested under farmer conditions, yield
impact within a short period of time and have an
established potential for uptake. |
| Are
individuals and families eligible? |
| No.
MATF only provides implementation funds to institutionalised
entities like NGOs, CBOs or private companies that
have a good track record in project implementation
and sound financial management. |
| What
do MATF funds pay for? |
| MATF
pays for direct costs incurred in project implementation.
These include seeds, feeds, fertilisers, hand tools,
field supplies, starter livestock, veterinary medicine,
fish stocks, fishing gear, building materials and
small, non-motorised equipment. |
| What
is not covered by MATF funds? |
| MATF
does not pay for consultants, experts, labour costs,
rental or hire costs, utilities, staff development
training or the printing of publications not intended
for dissemination of best practices. Large motorised
tools such as tractors, pumps or threshers are also
not covered. |
| How
will projects continue once MATF funds run out? |
| MATF
gives the initial funding for the first three years
of project implementation. MATF emphasises that
all funded projects must have an in-built sustainability
system that ensures a sound exit strategy is put
in place to provide continuity once the implementing
body winds up its activities. |
